Sandpaper sleeve

I thought this was worth mentioning not only for the What is Good brief but also as printing technique which serves a purpose. Martyn mentioned in a session last week that factory records designed this record, which features a sandpaper sleeve, and that it was physically asembled by a member of Joy Division, who needed extra cash. The intention was that you would not be able to keep the record in your collection as it would damage your other records. What a great idea, it was not only a statement about the music but also a swipe at people who keep prestine record collections. Many collectors did buy the record because of the noriety and the overall buzz surrounding it and instead decided to keep the sleeve in a plastic covering.

The sleeve was designed for a debut album release by'The Return Of The Durutti Column'. The 'Fact 14' relates to Factory Records numbering system.
