Moving on from title sequences, I've started to look at DVD menus, as I will be producing one which will showcase my development work as well as my final work. I stumbled across this agency's website after looking at an article on ComputerArts.co.uk.
The Pavement are a london based digital media agency who create work for a variety of formats including DVD's, UMV, and iPhones, etc. I was quite impressed with their recent work and was happy to see that they had made menus that have caught my interest before, namely 'Hot Fuzz' and 'Trainspotting'.
I track the videos they had back to vimeo where they are hosted and have embedded the videos here for your viewing pleasure. There is a lot going on in some but even with my fairly small knowledge of digital media, I can see how I could perhaps replicate some of the things going on in these animations. The Russell brand one appeals to me, and shows that movie footage is not always needed, which is something I scoffed at in the first week of the new brief.
Hot Fuzz is one of my all time favourite films and I love the way that the serious tone that is conveyed through the use of sound and image in the sequence. Even though its a comedy, I like the fact the menu ties in so well with the personality of the lead character. Its big and its action packed, just like the film.
Lastly I have this sequence from Trainspotting. Again, the art direction is ties in with the whole design for the film(The choice of font and colour). It's the most basic of all of the videos I have seen but the sleekness of the design portrays the quality of the design. It has a completely different feel to the rest of the videos.
