I have been trying to source imagery for my Element brief, and after Joe Gilmore's talk, I remember him talking about finding stock photos on flickr and then asking the photographer for usage.

Since then I have been looking a few places but ended up on flickr looking through tons of skateboarding images. I wanted images that caught the action well, and had a lot of depth. I wanted to look for something that Element would use themselves.

I found some images from the same photographer, Alex Höschen. I love the moody colours that he gets with his shots. They have a realistic, edgy quality to them too.

I selected a few that could work in my promotional material and sent him an email to ask for permission.

Alex was really friendly and sent me the full resolution composites almost straight away.

Hi Adam,

first of all i appreciate your interest in my work. It takes a lot of time to take these photos due to the fact that it depends on the rider and that very short moment to get a good photo, therefore it gives me pleasure if anybody wants to use those pictures.
Do you want me to send you the full resolution, and if yes, whats your mail adress?

Moreover i have to say i'd really enjoy to see how you will use or process them. So i'd be glad if you would send me a link to your portfolio.

Greetings from Germany,
Alex

Dan Boome found this awesome calendar which directly relates to what I am doing with the element brief. This is exactly what I am looking for. Simple shapes with a degree of detail and technical accuracy.

I need to see how this level detail is effected by the output, i/e can it work on t-shirt?

I intend on keeping up to date on posting new element designs whenever they become available to inform my own practice. I have carried on creating typefaces and vectorising them for this brief and I intend to carry on with that until I have ones I am happy with.

The range of these is once again quite diverse and there isn't any real conceptual thinking attached, the design direction just seems to change and t-shirts are released one by one.

These are from my own personal collection. Much more inventive use of typography on some of them. I'm thinking of creating my own typefaces for this project now. Seems to be the best way to be individual with this brief.

For the Element brief, I am looking to design a small collection of t-shirts for a new line of typographic t-shirts for guys. I recently checked out the Element website to find examples of t-shirts they are selling at the moment.

I know, as a buyer of element t-shirts, that these ones aren't the best typographic examples but they do give a flavour of the design aesthetic associated with the brand. I plan to post more examples of past and present designs some of which I own and inspired me to undertake the brief initially.

There is quite a mixed bag in terms of approach and that is what I wanted to get across. There is room for all disciplines, type, type as image, illustration, and then you've got more free flow designs opposite structured.
