I definitely need a track to play through my sequence, as I have found that all the other football sequences have had songs dub onto their sequences. It makes sense to have a football linked to football, however, songs are generally chosen for either inspiring lyrics or a sound that complements the footage. The tone for my sequence is a serious one, which should evoke memories of the players. I want to create a passionate link between the sequence and audience because that is what english football is all about, and I think the right choice of audio could strengthen that link.
I dismissed the pop genre straight away, and looked straight at indie tracks as sky sports and itv feature music from Kasabian and The Enemy. Both of which are popular british indie bands.
I didn't want to use the same track from those title sequences on mine. So therefore, I started to jot down names of other bands and possible tracks I could include. Two bands stood out as possible contenders (Bloc Party and The Subways) Both of which have songs which evoke emotion but also have upbeat anthems. The target audience would be interested in these bands but I question that they may not fit my pace and timing.
These are the tracks I picked first of all.
I then thought of other footballing tracks or tracks I associated with football. This led me to tirelessly search for hours for a track I had heard when I went to watch football. It ticked all the right boxes (passion, emotion, and it was quite a retro track) and not one that many people will have heard before. That meant people would the hear the song in this context and not associate with anything else.
The track I settled on was 'Strings for Yasmin' by Tin Tin Out. I had heard at Elland Road, the home of Leeds United before the players came out. The crowd certainly responded to it. I think this track would also appeal to my audience. Although I am unsure of their stance on music, I think it adds a certain quality to my visuals.
I will edit the track to start from around 50-60secs in. The first bit WILL NOT be part of the sequence.
